City v. Town

I was getting dressed for work this morning, putting on a blue & aqua checkered shirt to go with my navy-blue suit. As I looked into the mirror I asked myself; “is this shirt too country for Campton?” The words “too country for Campton” resinated in my head for a moment before a laugh burst out loud. Everything about Campton screams COUNTRY and I was worried about a plaid shirt being a little over the top.
I’ve lived in the Squam Lakes Region since 2000 and I’ve worked in the Waterville Valley Region since 2006, yet every morning on the way to work and every evening on the way home it still grabs me. I am still in awgh of the beautiful lakes and rivers and the breath-taking views of the mountains that some people may just take for granted or that some people don’t have the privilege of seeing at all. Thankfully, even after 7 years in the Grafton County I still see my ride to and from work as scenes from beautiful postcards.
When I first moved up north from Concord, NH, I was surprised to find out that Ashland is geographically the “Center of New Hampshire.” So in fact, I wasn’t moving north at all. I was moving into the pivot-point of NH. Although I had always thought of myself as more of a city girl than country, I feel like I have the best of both worlds (and as a Gemini that’s always important), I have all the amenities/necessities that a city offers with all of the beauty and serenity that you can only get from a town.
