Baby Boomers, What Doesn’t Kill Us Make Us Stronger

Growing up, we fell out of trees, scraped our knees, broke a bone or a tooth or two yet no lawsuits were pursued. We didn’t have video games, 200 cable channels, CD’s, DVD’s or Mp3’s- we had friends and were tossed out of the house at first light we found something to do.We ate worms, bugs and mud pies-we were given BB guns for our 11th birthday, played street hockey (until someone yelled car) and no one lost an eye that I can remember.Kids these days don’t go to little league tryouts and have to learn the disappointment of not making the team. We didn’t damage peoples property or break the law because our parents wouldn’t bail us out. This avoidance of trouble, making something happen when nothing was happening, and the willingness to take risks made my generation inventive, brave and often tenacious. My grandmother use to say you have to eat a peck of dirt before you die, It took me a long time to figure that out. I don’t have to make excuses for working hard and I know if I fail at one task or another I’ll learn something, how about you.
