> is one of the most commonly asked questions about these floors. The short answer is a resounding “Yes!” But, if you’re curious as to why, read on.

The answer lies in the history of wide plank floors, which were installed in colonial homes and buildings where the main source of heat was a fireplace or an old-fashioned, inefficient wood stove. While the heat fireplaces and woodstoves provided was uneven, those early wide plank floors never warped…they remained flat, stable and comfortable. We create wide plank floors the same way they were created years ago, with one improvement: we now use higher heat levels in the drying process to make the planks even more stable. You’ll still find the slight gaps between the planks (which will contract and expand with the heat), which is an appropriate look for a wide plank traditional floor. The plus side to using radiant heat is that this movement will be minimized because of the evenly distributed heating system.

So, yes, wide plank floors are a perfect match for radiant heating systems. As more evenly and consistently warm heating systems are created, our floors—made from wood, a living resource—will only benefit. We see nothing but a bright, warm future ahead.
