Thornton is a small town, nestled in the Pemigewasset River Valley of New Hampshire's White Mountains. The town was incorporated in 1763, and named for Doctor Matthew Thornton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The highest point is the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail at 2,580 feet above sea level on the western ridge of Dickey Mountain, whose 2,734-foot summit lies in the neighboring town of Waterville Valley.
Thornton is located in Grafton County with a population of 2,490 residents. The town is home to the famous Benton's Sugar Shack who offers their delicious pancakes. The Benton Family has been making maple syrup for five generations.
Students attend Thornton Elementary School until grade 8 then move on to Plymouth Regional High School.
