Real estate tax assistance is real and you should see if you qualify! The Low & Moderate Income Homeowners Property Tax Relief program offered by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue was created to decrease the economic burden of the State Education Property Tax on certain at-risk taxpayers.
The amount of relief received varies with the taxpayer’s income level, net assessed value of their home and equalized town tax rate. Single taxpayers cannot have an annual income in excess of $20,000 and the annual income limit for families is $40,000. Taxpayers must have resided in the home on April 1 of the year for which the claim is made.
To apply, homeowners must complete the Form DP-8 and file it with the NH Department of Revenue not sooner than May 1st and no later than June 30th, following the final property tax bill. To complete the form you must have your final property tax bill which shows the net assessed value of your home and a copy of your federal tax return for each claimant and all adult members of the claimant's household for the corresponding period. The law allows 120 days for processing from the date the completed application is received.
